Carol Yuan is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in New York. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, she studied Visual Arts and Architecture at Columbia University, with a focus on East Asian Studies. She co-runs com,,,as, an independent collective that publishes artist books. Her work has been shown at the LA and NY Printed Matter Art Book Fairs, ICP Photobook Fest, and other spaces across New York.
Her work moves across image-making, publishing, and systems of display. She thinks in sequence spatially, finding form in books, grids, websites, and exhibitions. For her, images rarely stay singular; they become cues in a larger arrangement, where proximity and sequence turn observation into structure.
She has worked as an event photographer, photographer, illustrator, graphic designer, brand identity designer, creative director, book designer, publication designer, typesetter, web designer, social media art director, strategist, researcher, art preparator and registrar, archivist, metal, wood, and ceramic fabricator, printshop monitor, 3D renderer, video editor, e-shop and webshop manager, and exhibition graphics designer, and finds that each informs the next, a cross-pollination that is the practice itself.
